Every number traces to a named source: Search Console and GA4 pulled 2 September 2026, a live Google NZ rankings check the same day, Ahrefs, and your SEO Work sheet.
Checked live on Google New Zealand, 2 September 2026: 9 of your 16 tracked terms are on page one and 3 are in the top three, including ceramic coating Auckland at number 2 and both Tesla ceramic coating terms at number 2.
The movers since July are worth naming, because they are the terms with real money behind them:
| Keyword | July | Live, 2 September |
|---|---|---|
| window tinting Auckland | 30 | 19 |
| car tinting Auckland | 21 | 17 |
| car grooming Auckland | 12 | 7 |
| paint protection film | 50 | 42 |
Visits from AI assistants have climbed through the winter: 8 in June, 17 in July, 29 in August, which is the highest on record, and in August every one of them came from ChatGPT. Across the last sixteen months that is 144 visits.
These are people who asked ChatGPT about detailing or ceramic coating and were pointed at you. Small numbers today, growing steadily, and it is the clearest signal in your data about where the next few years are heading.
August recovered well. Clicks rose 32.7% on July and impressions rose 8.9%, so you were both shown more and clicked more. That is a clean recovery month after a soft July.
Year on year is the harder read, and it is worth understanding properly. Clicks are down 60.7% on August last year. Your rankings did not cause that: measured across every search you appear for, your average placement improved over the same period. What happened is that impressions fell 37.7% and click-through fell alongside it. Better placement, shown less often, clicked less again.
That combination is the signature of Google answering more questions directly on the results page rather than sending the click through. It is happening across the whole market, and being the business the AI answer names is the response to it, which is exactly where your ChatGPT growth above comes in.
| Move | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Be the answer, not just a result | ChatGPT is already sending you visitors. Content that answers the questions people actually ask about ceramic coating, tinting and paint protection is what gets cited more often. |
| The near-miss terms | Car grooming Auckland at 7 and window tinting Auckland at 19 are both moving in the right direction and both winnable. |
| Your new parts store | We spotted the new performance parts section going live at the end of August. It is not being measured at the moment (no ecommerce tracking) and its collection page is titled "Accessories", which is a missed opportunity. Worth a conversation, because product pages are exactly what AI assistants like to cite. |
| More content, not more links | We are changing how authority gets built: winding down monthly volume link building and putting that effort into content instead. |
